A. Creation of Office; Appointment. There is created the office of Village Attorney. The Village Attorney shall be appointed by the President by and with the approval of the Trustees.
B. Compensation. The compensation of the Village Attorney shall be fixed by the Council.
C. Duties. The Village Attorney shall be the attorney for the Village, including all elected and appointed officials and boards and commissions of the Village. In addition to the duties set forth in this section, the Village Attorney shall prepare and draft any proposed ordinance requested by the Village President, Village Council or Village Manager, shall give necessary attention to all suits and proceedings in every court of record in which the Village is a party or in which the Village has a direct interest and shall provide such other legal services as may be requested by the Village President, Village Council or Village Manager.
D. Legal Opinions. When requested by the Village President, Village Council or Village Manager, the Village Attorney shall provide written opinions on legal questions arising under or concerning the Village Charter, any ordinance of the Village, or any subject in which the Village has an interest.
E. Attendance at Council Meetings; Reports. The Village Attorney shall attend the meetings of the Council and, at the request of the Council, on or before its first meeting in February of each year, make a report in writing to the Council of all suits, prosecutions or actions prosecuted or defended by him or her during the preceding fiscal year, of the names of the parties to such suits, prosecutions or actions, of the title of the courts in which they were commenced, of their progress or final disposition, and other information concerning the legal interests of the Village which may be deemed necessary or proper, by the Council.
