The Assistant Chief and firefighters shall be not less than 18 nor more than 65 years of age and able- bodied. The Council may require that each candidate, before he or she may become a probationary firefighter, must satisfy certain minimum requirements of height, weight, education and any other qualifications which may be specified by the Council and that he or she must pass a satisfactory mental and physical examination.
