The method of sidewalk construction shall be as follows:
(A) Concrete mixture. The materials used in each concrete batch shall be weighed or accurately measured so as to get a uniform concrete mixture. The proportion of dry weights of cement, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate in the concrete mix shall be approximately 1:2:3 (one 94-pound sack of cement, 188 pounds of sand and 282 pounds of coarse aggregate mixed with not more than six gallons of water). The concrete shall have a minimum compressive strength in 28 days of 3,900 pounds per square inch.
(B) Placing and finishing. The foundation and forms shall be thoroughly wetted immediately prior to the placing of concrete. The concrete shall be placed, consolidated to fill all voids, struck off to the required grade and floated smooth and even by means of a trowel. After the water sheen has disappeared, the joints shall be edged and the surface lightly brushed to a uniform texture. The edges along the side and at transverse joints shall be carefully rounded and marked with the proper edging tools. The sidewalk forms shall remain in place for at least 12 hours after placing the concrete therein.
(C) Curing. The concrete shall be cured by covering with wet burlap, curing paper or plastic curing blankets for a period of not less than 72 hours or by the application of an approved membrane curing compound. Pedestrian traffic shall be prohibited during the curing period. Concrete for sidewalks shall not be placed on frozen subgrade, nor shall any concrete be placed during freezing weather or when freezing temperatures may be expected.
