§ 111.01 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   ACTIVE STATUS REGISTRATION. A contractor has met all the registration requirements set forth under this chapter to work within the town.
   ADMINISTRATOR. The Building Administrator for the town.
   BUSINESS ENTITY. Any individual, sole proprietorship, firm, partnership, limited partnership, corporation, or any other form of unincorporated enterprise or association.
   CONTRACTOR. Any person, except a licensed architect or registered professional engineer, who in any capacity, other than as the employee of another for wages as the sole compensation, undertakes to construct, repair, move, wreck, or demolish any structure or real estate improvement project. The term includes a subcontractor or specialty CONTRACTOR, but does not include a person or entity who only furnishes materials or supplies.
   INACTIVE STATUS REGISTRATION. A contractor that meets all the registration requirements of this chapter except the insurance requirement in § 111.19 below. While on INACTIVE STATUS the contractor may not work within the town but can maintain his or her registration to avoid having to repeat the registration process prior to the expiration of his or her current registration. A contractor with an INACTIVE STATUS REGISTRATION may provide proof of insurance to the Administrator and/or staff as required under § 111.19 to be placed on active status and begin working in the town.
   OWNER/OCCUPANT. An individual who owns and lives (or will live upon completion) in a single- family dwelling which he himself or she herself is constructing, installing equipment or materials in, altering, remodeling, or repairing.
   SPECIALTY CONTRACTOR. A contractor who specializes in a particular branch of the building construction industry and who is required by the state to be licensed in his or her specialty in order to work in the state.
   TOWN. The Town of Winfield, Lake County, Indiana.
