§ 30.16 STAGGERING OF TERMS OF OFFICE.
   (A)   It is in the best interest of the citizens of the town to have the election of the Town Council coincide with the general elections conducted by the county.
   (B)   Four members of the Town Legislative Body were scheduled for election in the year 2023 and said positions, in accordance with Ord. 2014-09 (as amended), were elected in 2023 by way of a general municipal election conducted by the town for a term as detailed hereafter.
   (C)   (1)   Two members of the Town Legislative Body were elected in the 2023 general election conducted by the town and shall serve a term of one year commencing in 2024.
      (2)   Said positions shall be subject to a general election run by the town in 2024 and every four years thereafter, with said term of office being four years thereafter.
   (D)   The remaining two members of the Town Legislative Body currently scheduled for election in the year 2023 were elected in 2023 by way of a general municipal election run by the town for an initial term of office of three years.
   (E)   Hereafter the aforementioned two members of the Town Legislative Body elected at the municipal election conducted in 2023 for a term of three years shall be elected at a general election conducted by the town commencing in 2026 and every four years thereafter, with said term of office being four years thereafter.
   (F)   The four positions elected in the 2023 municipal election were designated as one-year or three-year terms in order to comply with divisions (C) and (E) above.
   (G)   All positions which are eligible for election in any given year, commencing in 2023 and hereafter, shall be required to participate in the primary election on the first Tuesday in May of the applicable year if more than one candidate has filed a declaration of candidacy for the given position.
   (H)   The term of office of each town officer begins on January 1 after the election.
   (I)   The town shall not conduct any election in a year following an election of the President of the United States of America as required by I.C. 3-10-7-2.9(c)(1).
   (J)   The elections for the Town Council positions and the Clerk/Treasurer position may be conducted by general or municipal election.
