SECTION 2.3 VACANCY OF OFFICE.
   In the event of the death, resignation or removal of the Mayor, as provided in Section 2.4 or otherwise, the President of Council shall become the Mayor. If less than eighteen (18) months are remaining in the unexpired term at the time when the vacancy occurs, the President of Council shall serve as Mayor for the time remaining in said unexpired term. If more than eighteen (18) months remain in the unexpired term at the time when the vacancy occurs, a mayoral election shall be held at the Primary or General election next following the occurrence of said vacancy. However, if there are less than thirty (30) days remaining until the deadline for the submission of petitions for the Office of Mayor to the Board of Elections for the next Primary or General election, the mayoral election shall take place at the second Primary or General election following the time such vacancy occurs. The successful candidate shall take office as soon as the results are certified by the Board of Elections. The Mayor elected at said next election shall serve the remainder of the unexpired term.
