The provisions of this ordinance are not intended to prevent the use of any material or to prohibit any design or method of construction not specifically presented by this ordinance, provided any such alternate is approved prior to being used. The Chief Building Official may approve any such alternate provided he finds that the proposed design is satisfactory and complies with the accepted design criteria. The Chief Building Official may require that substantial evidence and/or testing be submitted to substantiate any claims that may be made regarding its use.
