§ 30.21 CHIEF OF POLICE.
   (A)   Selection. The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the Board of Trustees. The Chief of Police shall be a certified police officer and shall be selected on the basis of such other qualifications as are determined by the Board of Trustees.
   (B)   Term; removal. The Chief of Police shall serve an indefinite term, and he or she may be removed by a majority vote of all the members of the Board of Trustees. No such removal shall be made without a charge in writing and an opportunity of a hearing being given.
   (C)   Powers; authority.
      (1)   The Chief of Police shall have and exercise all the powers within the town conferred on such position pursuant to state statutes and town ordinances.
      (2)   The Chief of Police shall report to the Town Manager with respect to the administrative and financial operations of the Police Department and shall be responsible for the professional supervision and management of all police officers under his or her command.
   (D)   Duties. It shall be the duty of the Chief of Police to:
      (1)   See that the ordinances of the town and the laws of the state are duly enforced and executed and that the peace of the town is preserved;
      (2)   Exercise general supervision and control over the work of all members of the Police Department and prescribe the number of hours and the time of day or night police officers shall be on duty;
      (3)   See that the rules and regulations governing the operations of the Police Department are properly administered and obeyed;
      (4)   Administer procedures and processes as approved by the Board for the qualification and selection of candidates to fill positions within the Police Department; and
      (5)   Perform such other duties and responsibilities as required by the position description, any ordinance or resolution or as otherwise assigned by the Board of Trustees.
