§ 72.06 PARKING IN EXCESS OF CERTAIN NUMBER OF HOURS PROHIBITED; TOWING AUTHORIZED.
   (A)   Any person who leaves or parks a motor vehicle, licensed or unlicensed, on the untraveled portion of a city street, alley, or property belonging to the city for a longer period than 30 days and under circumstances indicating abandonment, and the parking or leaving of a motor vehicle on the untraveled portion of a street, alley, or other city property shall be prima facie evidence of abandonment, shall be fined as set forth in § 72.99.
   (B)   Any such vehicle so allowed to remain on the untraveled portion of a city street, alley, or other city property shall be towed away by officers, agents, or employees of the city. In addition to other penalties provided in this chapter, the cost of towing and any storage charges which may accrue shall be paid by the owner of the vehicle before such vehicle is released from the custody of the city.
   (C)   (1)   Any such vehicle which is towed away by officers, agents, or employees of the city and which is not claimed by the owner thereof or his or her authorized agent within 60 days may be sold to pay towing and storage charges, which shall constitute a lien against the vehicle within the meaning of this section. The proposed sale shall be advertised at least three times in some newspaper of general circulation in the city, the last advertisement to be made at least six days before the sale is held, and notice thereof shall be sent by registered mail to any person known to have any interest in the vehicle at the person's last known address at least ten days before the sale is held.
      (2)   A transfer of registration shall be issued to the purchaser by the county clerk. The person in whose name the vehicle was last registered shall comply with the provisions of KRS 186.190 to accomplish the purpose of this section.
   (D)   If the vehicle is unfit for future use, the city may dispose of it for its salvage value in the same manner as provided in division (C) of this section.
