§ 80.06 IMPOUNDMENT.
   (A)   Any city police officer and Animal Control Officer is hereby authorized to take up and impound any animal found to be in violation of this chapter. Upon the impounding of an animal, the impounding officer shall notify its owner, if known, and if the owner is not known, he or she shall post on the Columbus County Animal Control Shelter bulletin board a notice which states the time of and reason for impoundment, a description of the impounded animal and the place where the animal was taken, together with a statement that the owner may redeem the animal by payment of the costs of impoundment and complying with any applicable provision of the law or this code. The Columbus County Animal Shelter is responsible for determining the number of days that an animal will be retained, as related to its impoundment.
   (B)   Owners may redeem their animals at any time prior to authorized disposition.
   (C)   Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent any person from destroying a rabid animal on sight, or from destroying a dangerous or vicious animal when it cannot safely be taken up for impoundment. Destruction of animals shall be accomplished in a humane manner consistent with the safety of all persons who may be present at the time of destruction.
   (D)   The city shall have the authority to dispose of animals (other than cats and dogs) or fowl, that are not accepted by the Columbus County Animal Shelter.
