17.72.010: STATEMENT OF INTENT AND PURPOSE:
White Pine County recognizes home occupations can be useful to both the general community as well as the business owner. It is the intent and purpose of the minor deviation/home occupation provisions to provide for certain types of occupational uses within residential districts. Home occupations must have the following characteristics: a) they are not disruptive to the residential use of adjacent properties; b) they generate less traffic and noise than typical commercial or industrial activities; and c) they are compatible in appearance, operating hours, and other factors with the surrounding neighborhood. Home occupations may involve service as well as manufacturing, but must be accessory and subordinate to the residential use of the property. Home occupations are not intended to create new commercial or industrial areas, but rather to provide an opportunity to supplement an income, start up a business, or establish a workplace at home.
