159.13 PROBATIONARY PERIODS FOR APPOINTEES.
All original and promotional appointments and re-employments shall be made for a probationary period of six months. Within two (2) weeks prior to the six month anniversary date of appointment or re-employment, the department head shall complete a performance appraisal stating if the services of the employee during the probationary period have been satisfactory and if he/she should be continued in service, and forward it to the Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Department will forward the performance appraisal and payroll adjustment form to the appointing officer for continued service or termination approval.
This probationary period shall be deemed to be part of the examining process for determining the qualification of candidates. At all times during this probationary period, employment shall be at will. Upon dismissal during the probationary period of a classified in- house appointment, the employee, otherwise in good standing, shall be reinstated in his/her former position even though this may necessitate the lay-off of the employee occupying his/her former position.
