Pursuant to the City of Wheeling, WV City Charter at Section 28, the Mayor is vested with the authority to appoint and chair the Mayor's Commission on Economic and Industrial Development.
(a) The purpose of the Mayor's Commission on Economic and Industrial Development is to encourage and foster dialogue which in turn provides advice on economic and industrial development and to assist in transforming such dialogue and advice into sustainable and positive economic results throughout the community and to foster arts related educational opportunities. To that end, the Commission's mission is to promote and develop economic and industrial activities and initiatives that advance the economy, quality of life, industry and vibrancy of the greater Wheeling area. Whenever possible, the Mayor and a Council member appointed to the Commission will represent the Mayor's Economic and Industrial Development Commission at various meetings which concern the goals and mission of the Commission.
(b) The Commission shall establish standing committees corresponding to various subject matters ("substantive standing committees") which carry out the purpose of this commission. The functions and purposes of the standing committees shall be as prescribed in the Commission's bylaws.
(c) The commission may establish such additional standing or special committees from time to time as it deems appropriate.
