(a) The purpose of the Arts and Cultural Commission is to encourage and foster the artistic, cultural and creative strengths of Wheeling and to assist in transforming those characteristics into sustainable and positive aesthetic and economic results throughout the community and to foster arts related educational opportunities. To that end, the Commission’s mission is to promote and develop artistic and cultural activities and initiatives that advance the quality of life and vibrancy of the greater Wheeling area. Whenever possible, the Chairman at large and the Council member appointed to the Commission will represent the Arts and Entertainment Commission at various meetings which concern the goals and mission of the Commission.
(b) The Commission shall establish a standing committee corresponding to each of the following subject matters (“substantive standing committees”):
(1) Performing Arts
(2) Visual Arts
(3) History and Literature
In addition to those substantive standing committees, the Commission shall establish standing committees on (1) Internal Affairs and (2) Marketing and Fund-raising. The functions and purposes of the standing committees shall be as prescribed in the Commission’s bylaws.
(c) The commission may establish such additional standing or special committees from time to time as it deems appropriate and subject to final approval of the City of Wheeling. (Ord. 15128. Passed 7-3-18.)
