All buildings two or more stories in height used as a retail or wholesale store, warehouse or industrial plant, where combustible or hazardous materials are stored or handled, shall provide an emergency entrance window or other entrance provision on the second and all other upper floor levels.
Such entrance windows or entranceways are for the use of the Fire Department in the event of a fire or other emergency. The windows or entrances shall be no less than one for each fifty lineal feet of building wall, and when opened shall have a clear opening of no less than fifteen square feet. Each opening shall be no more than twenty-four inches above the floor level.
The windows or entranceways are intended to provide an unobstructed passage way to each floor area, and are not to be obstructed by displays, merchandise, furniture or any other material. Each window or entranceway shall be marked in green paint, the letter "F" on a white background. The letter "F" shall be at least eighteen inches in height and twelve inches in width, and placed in the upper left hand corner of the window or entranceway, so as to be easily discernible from the street level.
Each such window or entranceway shall be so arranged so that in the event of a fire or emergency, the Fire Department can gain easy entrance to each floor area.
