(a) Hospitals, nursing homes, convalescent homes, homes for the aged, custodial care, long term or extended care homes or institutions, regardless of the type of construction shall be protected with complete automatic sprinkler protection in accordance with National Fire Protection Association Standard 13.
(b) All hotels, motels, tourist homes, motor inns or any building containing fifteen or more sleeping rooms intended or designed to be used, or which are used by transients, existing and new, regardless of the type of construction shall be protected with complete automatic sprinkler protection in accordance with National Fire Protection Association Standard 13.
Exception. Hotels or motels where each guest room has a direct exit to the outside of the building at ground level, with no interior corridors or stairs.
(c) Every new Class A and B place of assembly shall be protected throughout by an approved automatic sprinkler system. Exception No. 1: Auditoriums with fixed seating. Exception No. 2: Multipurpose educational occupancy auditoriums of less than 12,000 sq. ft. (1115 sq.m.) area. Exception No. 3: Passenger terminals at or above grade. Exception No. 4: Gymnasiums used for no other purpose. Exception No. 5: Skating rinks and swimming pools used exclusively for participant sport and no audience facilities for more than 300.
(d) Having an approved sprinkler system will not negate the necessity of satisfying other requirements of the Fire Prevention Code.
