(a) Required stairways, fire escapes, hallways or any other means of exit, including exterior open spaces to or through which exits lead, shall be kept adequately lighted at all times that the building served thereby is occupied.
(b) All buildings, except private residences, regulated by the provisions of this article, shall have the artificial lighting of the rooms, floor areas, hallways, fire escapes and exits so arranged and supplied that an interruption of a supply to any one lighting circuit will not result in the extinguishment of all the lights necessary for safe exit from the building, or all the lights along any exit way.
