5-5E-4: ASSAULT OR BATTERY UPON POLICE, OTHER OFFICERS:

It is unlawful for any person, without justifiable or excusable cause, to knowingly commit any assault, battery or assault and battery upon the person of a police officer or other officer of the law while in the performance of his duties. (1983 Code § 10-603)
