§ 70.15  DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this title, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   (A)   Vehicles and equipment.
      AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLES. Vehicles of the Fire Department and police vehicles; also privately owned ambulances when on emergency calls.
      BUS. Every motor vehicle designed for carrying passengers for hire and used for the transportation of persons; and every motor vehicle other than a taxicab, designed and used for the transportation of persons for compensation.
      DRIVER. Every person who drives or is in actual physical control of a vehicle.
      MOTOR VEHICLE. Every vehicle which is self-propelled.
      OWNER. A person who holds the legal title of a vehicle, or in the event a vehicle is the subject of an agreement for the conditional sale or lease thereof with the right of purchase upon performance of the conditions stated in the agreement and with an immediate right of possession vested in the conditional vendee or lessee, or in the event a mortgagor of a vehicle is entitled to possession, then the conditional vendee or lessee or mortgagor shall be deemed the owner for the purpose of this title.
      PEDESTRIAN. Any person afoot.
      PERSON. Every natural person, firm, co-partnership, association or corporation.
      POLICE OFFICER. Every officer authorized to direct or regulate traffic or to make arrests for violation of traffic regulations in this town.
      TRUCK. Every motor vehicle designed, used or maintained primarily for the transportation of property.
      VEHICLE. Every device including bicycles, in, upon or by which any person or property is or may be transported or drawn upon a highway.
   (B)   Highways, restricted districts; defined.
      ALLEY. Any publicly maintained thoroughfare designed and constructed primarily for the use of service or from or upon which entry is made to the rear entrance of the majority of residences or business establishments adjoining.
      BUSINESS DISTRICT. National Avenue from the east boundary line of the town to the west boundary line of the town; also, Paris Avenue from the east boundary of the town to the intersection of North Third Street and the Paris Avenue in the town are hereby designated BUSINESS DISTRICTS.
      CROSSWALKS. That portion of a roadway at an intersection included within the prolongation or connection of the lateral lines of the sidewalks from the curb to the opposite curbs when unmarked.
      INTERSECTION. The area embraced within the prolongation or connection of the lateral curb lines, or, if none, then the lateral boundary lines of the roadways of two highways which join one another at, or approximately at, right angles or the area within which vehicles traveling upon different highways joining at any other angle may come in conflict.
      OFFICIAL TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES. All signs, signals, markings and devices, not inconsistent with this chapter placed or erected by authority of the Town Council for the purpose of regulating, warning or guiding traffic.
      RESIDENCE DISTRICT. All other territory contiguous to and including all other streets and highways in the town other than that described in the definition of business districtabove.
      RIGHT-OF-WAY. The privilege of the immediate use of the highway.
      ROADWAY. That portion of a highway improved, designed or ordinarily used for vehicular travel.
      SIDEWALK. That portion of a street between the curb lines, or the lateral lines of a roadway, and the adjacent property lines intended for the use of pedestrians.
      STREET, HIGHWAY. The entire width between the boundary lines of every way publicly maintained when any part thereof is open to the use of the public for purpose of vehicular travel.
      THROUGH HIGHWAY. Every highway or portion thereof at the entrances to which vehicular traffic from intersecting highways is required by law to stop before entering or crossing the same where stop signs are erected as provided in this chapter.
      TRAILER. A vehicle that is hauled by another vehicle, also a vehicle equipped to serve wherever it is parked as a dwelling or as a place of business.
      TRAVEL TRAILER. A vehicular portable structure built on a chassis, designed to be used as a temporary dwelling for travel, recreation and vacation, factory equipped for the road. TRAVEL TRAILER also means a camper-type trailer which is designed for use on a truck.
