1474.02 INSTALLATION REQUIRED; CAPABILITIES OF DETECTORS.
   The owner of each new or existing single-family dwelling, two-family dwelling, multifamily dwelling, apartment house or rooming house shall install smoke detectors in each dwelling unit as provided for in this chapter. Each smoke detector shall be capable of sensing visible and invisible particles of combustion and immediately thereafter providing an audible alarm which shall be rated at not less than eighty-five decibels at a distance of ten feet. Each smoke detector shall be able to sound this level of alarm for a minimum of four continuous minutes and shall be clearly audible in all bedrooms within the adjacent separate sleeping area when all intervening doors are closed. Smoke detectors which are capable of detecting only heat shall not be deemed in compliance with this chapter. All smoke detectors shall be installed within thirty days of the effective date of this chapter, unless any other provision of County, State or Federal law or this chapter requires installation before that date. No person shall fail to install smoke detectors as required by such date.
