The owner of each new or existing single-family dwelling, two-family dwelling, multifamily dwelling, apartment house or rooming house shall install carbon monoxide detectors in each dwelling unit as provided for in this chapter. Such carbon monoxide detectors shall be capable of detecting the presence of sixty parts per million (PPM) of carbon monoxide in ambient air and immediately thereafter providing an audible alarm which shall be rated at not less than eighty-five decibels at a distance of ten feet. Each carbon monoxide detector shall be able to sound this level of alarm for a minimum of four continuous minutes and shall be clearly audible in all bedrooms within the adjacent separate sleeping area when all intervening doors are closed. All carbon monoxide detectors shall be installed within thirty days of the effective date of this chapter, unless any other provision of County, State or Federal law or this chapter requires installation before that date. No person shall fail to install carbon monoxide detectors as required by such date.
