(a) Permitted Geothermal Energy Systems. Geothermal energy systems adhering to performance and design standards of this section are permitted within all zoning districts.
(b) Performance and Design Standards.
(1) All geothermal energy systems must be closed loop systems. Open loop systems are not permitted.
(2) All above ground geothermal appurtenances, with the exception of the condensing unit, must be located indoors.
(3) Setbacks. All underground piping and other geothermal appurtenances shall be no closer than five feet to any property line. For any external geothermal units or appurtenances, all setbacks of the applicable zoning district or development standards text shall be met.
(4) Landscaping. All excavation areas must be returned to their original condition within 30 days of the completion of installation. Areas that were greenspace prior to excavation shall be seeded, sodded or landscaped within 30 days of the completion of installation.
