160.07 SIGNS ALLOWED WITHOUT REQUIRING A SIGN PERMIT.
A permit is not required for the signs stated in the table below. These signs shall be allowed in all zoning districts.
Signs permitted in all Zoning Districts
Civic banners.
Seasonal decorations.
Home occupation signs. Signs are subject to the requirements specified in Section 160.14(C) of the chapter.
Signs mounted inside a building, that are not visible from the exterior of the building.
Real estate signs. Signs are subject to the requirements specified in Section 160.14(C) of the chapter.
Incidental signs. Signs are subject to the requirements specified in Section 160.14(C) of the chapter.
Political campaign signs.
Public signs. Signs at the SU-CC and SU-MC shall be considered public signs and shall not require a sign permit, provided they are located beyond the minimum setback given in this chapter.
Construction signs. Signs identifying the architect, engineer, contractor or other individuals involved in the construction of a building and such signs announcing the character of the building enterprise or the purpose for which the building is intended but not including product advertising. One nonilluminated sign not to exceed fifty square feet shall be permitted per street frontage. Such sign shall not extend higher than ten feet above grade level and meet the front yard requirement for a principal structure unless located on the wall of a building on the premises or on a protective barricade surrounding the construction. Such signs shall be removed within one week following completion of construction.
Conditions that do not require a sign permit
These exemptions shall not be construed as relieving the owner of the sign from the responsibility for its erection, maintenance, and compliance with the provisions of this chapter or other laws or ordinances regulating signs.
Painting, repainting or cleaning of an advertising structure or changing the advertising copy on a billboard sign or sandwich board or message thereon shall not be considered an erection or alteration that requires a sign permit unless a structural change is made.
