§ 34.14 CRIMINAL COMPLAINTS AGAINST VILLAGE EMPLOYEES OR OFFICIALS.
   (A)   In any criminal complaint or criminal investigation case involving a public official or employee of the village as a victim, defendant and/or other interested party, the Mayor is hereby authorized on behalf of the village to see that the case receives an independent review, and, if appropriate, investigation and/or prosecution.
   (B)   The Mayor is hereby authorized to refer cases covered by this section to the County Sheriff’s Department or the County Prosecutor’s office, or to retain a special investigator or special prosecutor, where appropriate.
   (C)   Nothing contained in this section shall require the Mayor to use an independent review, investigation and/or prosecutorial process on cases involving public officials or employees of the village; however, the process authorized by this section is intended to promote governmental harmony and lessen the likelihood of abuse.
