§ 34.08 OVERTIME; WORK WEEK; WORK DAY.
   (A)   Police Department.
      (1)   Overtime.
         (a)   As a full time hourly employee, overtime is computed at one and one-half hours per every hour worked. The employee has the option of taking payment or taking compensation hours and banking those hours for later use.
         (b)   Compensation hours can be accumulated up to 40 hours, at which time the employee must either take the option of pay or schedule time off. Any scheduled time off must be approved by the Chief.
      (2)   Pay period. Pay periods begin on Sunday of week one and end on Saturday of week two.
   (B)   Service and Street Department.
      (1)   Overtime. Overtime pay will be computed at the rate of one and one-half times the regular hourly pay for all hours in excess of 40 per work week.
      (2)   Pay period. Pay periods begin on Sunday of week one and end on Saturday of week two.
      (3)   Work day. Although the Superintendent may vary the work schedule within certain limits, work days for both the Superintendent and the maintenance employee will consist of five eight-hour shifts commencing at 6:00 to 8:00 a.m. and ending at 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., with one-half hour off for meals. However, except under the most extreme emergencies, neither the Superintendent nor the maintenance employee shall exceed 40 hours per work week. Furthermore, should the Superintendent or the maintenance employee be called to work more than the heretofore prescribed five days per week or eight hours per day, the Superintendent or the maintenance employee shall take time off so as not to exceed 40 hours per week.
   (C)   Water and Sewer Department.
      (1)   Overtime. Overtime pay will be computed at the rate of one and one-half times the regular hourly pay for all hours in excess of 40 per work week.
      (2)   Pay period. Pay periods begin on Sunday of week one and end on Saturday of week two.
      (3)   Work day. Although the Superintendent may vary the work schedule within certain limits, work days for all employees of the department will generally consist of five eight-hour shifts commencing at 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. and ending at 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., with one-half hour off for meals. However, except under the most extreme emergencies, neither the Superintendent nor the other employees shall exceed 40 hours per work week. Furthermore, should the Superintendent or other employees be called to work more than the heretofore prescribed five days per week or eight hours per day, the Superintendent or other employees shall take time off so as not to exceed 40 hours per week.
   (D)   Overtime for emergency purposes only. Overtime payment for overtime worked shall be paid only for hours necessitated by some extreme emergency and only as authorized by the proper department having authority.
   (E)   Compensatory time-off. All other necessary overtime worked, as authorized, shall be compensated for by taking compensatory time-off as soon as practicable, with no more than one person from each department taking “comp” time at the same time. Time-off must be staggered.
   (F)   Disciplinary action. Failure to abide by the provisions of divisions (D) and (E) of this section may result in disciplinary action, including possible termination of employment.
