5-3-4: HUNTING, FIREARMS DISCHARGE, TRAPPING:
   A.   Definitions: For purposes of this section:
    DANGEROUS WEAPON: As defined in Utah state code 76-10-501.
   FIREARM: As defined in Utah state code 76-10-501.
   TRAPPING: The use of any mechanical device which entraps, snares or snaps closed on any animal.
   B.   Discharge Of Firearm Prohibited; Exceptions: It is a class C misdemeanor, subject to penalty as provided in section 1-4-1 of this code, for any person to discharge any firearm within the city, except as follows:
      1.   At the police target range, when established;
      2.   At a regularly conducted school as part of a supervised course of instruction;
      3.   At a regularly organized gun club shooting range where the range and facilities have been approved by the governing body;
      4.   In self-defense;
      5.   Any peace officer in the discharge of his duty.
   C.   Trapping Prohibited; Exceptions: It is a class C misdemeanor, subject to penalty as provided in section 1-4-1 of this code, for any person to trap, set a trap, or engage in trapping in the city, except as follows:
      1.   The mayor may provide written authorization to engage in trapping where it is deemed by the mayor to be in the best interests of the city.
      2.   By landowners on their own property or as authorized with written permission from the landowner.
      3.   Any trapping within the city must comply with Utah state code R657-11, taking furbearers.
   D.   Possession Of A Dangerous Weapon By Minor: As defined in Utah state code 76-10.
   E.   Use Of A Dangerous Weapon; Exception: Use of dangerous weapons, excluding firearms, within the city is allowed under the following circumstances:
      1.   With adult supervision as described in subsection D of this section; and
      2.   In a safe manner with proper backstops or clear distance to prevent severe injury or damage to property. (Ord. 2016-01, 2-17-2016)
