§ 30.04  FIRE CHIEF.
   (A)   There shall be annually appointed in the month of January in each year by the City Council of the City of Wells, 1 person as Fire Chief who shall receive the compensation as shall be fixed by the Council.  The Fire Chief is to hold office for the term of 1 year and until his or her successor is appointed and qualified.
   (B)   The Fire Chief shall, before entering upon the duties of his or her office, make oath for the faithful performance of the duties of his or her office and shall make and file a bond with sufficient sureties to be approved by the City Administrator-Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Wells in the sum of $500 conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of his or her office.
   (C)   The Fire Chief of the city is hereby authorized to enter into any house, building, lot, or other premises in the city, between sunrise and sunset, for the purpose of examining the construction and condition of chimneys, fireplaces, hearths, stoves, stovepipes, ovens, boilers, and other apparatus, used in and about the house, building, lot, or other premises likely to cause fire; also to examine places where ashes may be deposited and all places where gun powder or other explosives, hemp, hay, straw, shavings, oils, or other combustible or inflammable material may be lodged, and give the orders as to the removal, abatement, alteration, better care, and management thereof as may be deemed advisable.  And it is hereby made the duty of the owner or person in charge of the things herein enumerated to comply with the orders so given by the Fire Chief.
