(A) General statement of duties. Duties and responsibilities of the auxiliary participants are limited by the very nature of the program and their civilian status. Duties may include traffic direction, special events, crowd control, assisting at Police Department or school functions, assisting the Central Records Section, the Detective Section, the Communications Center, assist administrative personnel by completing tasks as directed, acting as couriers when needed, and may be assigned to assist the Community Relations/Crime Prevention Officer.
(B) Nature of work.
(1) Auxiliary officers may be assigned to a Field Training Officer (FTO) which require him or her to accompany the road patrol officers on tours of duty and assist that officer. Auxiliary officers are permitted to assist in report writing, traffic control, securing a crime scene, and the like, but are not permitted to carry a firearm or make an arrest.
(2) Work assignments, methods, and results are reviewed by supervisors through reports, personal inspection, and discussion.
(3) Auxiliary officers may be called upon in emergencies to perform day-to-day functions within their training and authority and may be selected to perform security details as needed.
(4) Auxiliary officers shall cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect of the rights of others.
(5) Auxiliary officers shall be knowledgeable in the Police Department’s rules, policies, procedures, general orders, personnel orders, and special orders.
(6) Auxiliary officers shall react quickly and calmly under emergency conditions.
(C) Minimum experience, training, and physical requirements. Minimum of high school graduate or any equivalent combination of experience and training (G.E.D.). Minimum of 20 years of age and other physical requirements prescribed by the Police Department such as capabilities to perform duties which require long periods of walking or standing. Must be of good general intelligence and emotional stability.
