6-2-1: SPEED LIMITS:
   A.   Maximum Speed Limits:
      1.   The maximum speed limits for all streets and roads within the corporate limits of the Village, and under the jurisdiction of the Village, shall be as follows:

      2.   The maximum speed limit for all streets and roads within the Village and under the jurisdiction of the Village not otherwise provided for herein is hereby established at twenty five (25) miles per hour.
The maximum speed limits set out herein shall be applicable at all times during the day and night. (Ord. 96-06, 5-21-1996)
   B.   Signs Posted: The Village shall cause to be erected at the proper place or along the proper part and zone of said roads as hereinabove described, appropriate signs giving notice of the limits established herein and establishing the beginning of the speed zone. Electronic speed detecting devices shall not be used within five hundred feet (500') beyond any sign which initially establishes such speed zone in the direction of travel; provided, however, that electronic speed detecting devices may be used within five hundred feet (500') of a sign within a special school speed zone indicating such zone, in conformance with the requirements of 625 Illinois Compiled Statutes 5/11-604 and 5/11-605.    C.   Violation, Penalty: Any person operating any motor vehicle in excess of the maximum speed limits provided herein shall, at the option of the Chief of Police or his officers, be issued a warning or citation under the appropriate section of the Illinois Vehicle Code and shall be subject to the penalties as prescribed therein, or may be charged with a violation of this section. Any person found guilty of a violation of this section resulting from traveling at a rate of speed in excess of the posted limit but not more than twenty five (25) miles per hour over the posted limit shall be liable to a fine of not less than seventy five dollars ($75.00) nor more than the maximum fine allowed in section 1-4-1 of this Code for each offense, plus any court costs permitted or required by law. Any person found guilty of traveling at a rate of speed in excess of twenty five (25) miles per hour over the posted limit, but not more than thirty four (34) miles per hour over the posted speed limit, shall be liable to a fine of not less than one hundred dollars ($100.00) nor more than the maximum fine as provided in section 1-4-1 of this Code for each offense, plus any court costs permitted or required by law. Any person found guilty of traveling at a rate of speed in excess of thirty five (35) miles an hour over the posted limit shall be liable for a fine of not less than two hundred dollars ($200.00) nor more than the maximum fine allowed in section 1-4-1 of this Code, plus any court costs permitted or required by law.
