§ 32.06 UNIFORMED VOLUNTEER SERVICE.
   (A)   Establishment. The Sheriff of the county is authorized and empowered, in accordance with I.C. 36-8-3-20 as amended, to establish a unit within the County Sheriff’s Department, to be known as the “Uniformed Volunteer Services Program of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department”.

   (B)   Appointment. Program volunteers will be determined and appointed by the Sheriff of the county subject to qualifications, limitations, directions and standards established by the Sheriff of the county.

   (C)   Number of volunteers. The unit of program volunteers shall not exceed 40 individuals at any one time. Program volunteers shall serve as special deputies under such authority as is granted and defined by the Sheriff of the county pursuant to I.C. 36-8-10-10.6, as amended.

   (D)   Composition. The County Sheriff may constitute, establish, operate and appoint, in accordance with the provisions of this section, the County Sheriff’s Reserves Unit, the County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol Unit and such other divisions and/or units deemed appropriate by the Sheriff.

   (E)   Uniforms. Uniforms designating special deputies appointed pursuant to this section shall be easily distinguishable from uniforms worn by regular sections of the County Sheriff’s Department.
