For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
AMMUNITION. Any of the following: fixed cartridge ammunition; shotgun shells; individual components of fixed cartridge ammunition and shotgun shells; projectiles for muzzle loading firearms; and any propellant used in a firearm or in firearm ammunition.
BUILDING. A structure, land area (regardless of whether it is improved) or any other facility that is county owned.
COMMISSIONER(S). Wayne County, Indiana, Board of Commissioners.
COUNTY. Wayne County, Indiana.
COUNTY-OWNED. A building owned, leased or otherwise occupied by the county, or any agency thereof.
FIREARM. Any weapon that is capable of expelling, designed to expel or may be readily converted to expel a projectile by means of an explosion.
FIREARM ACCESSORY. Any device specifically adapted to enable the wearing or carrying about one’s person, or the storage or mounting in or on any conveyance of a firearm, and any attachment or device specifically adapted to be inserted into or affixed onto any firearm to enable, alter or improve the functioning or capabilities of the firearm.
LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. Any person described in I.C. 35-41-1-17.
ON-DUTY. Any activity performed by a law enforcement officer directly in connection with his or her employment as a law enforcement officer making necessary his or her presence in a county-owned building. Such activities include, but are not limited to, providing testimony, investigating a crime, serving a summons or subpoena or executing a probable cause affidavit.
SECURITY PERSONNEL. A person employed by the county whose primary responsibility is to maintain a safe and secure environment in a county-owned building.
