620.03 EXEMPTIONS.
   (a)   The provisions of this chapter restricting the sale, possession, use and/or transportation of controlled substances and paraphernalia shall not apply to common carriers or warehousemen or their employees engaged in the lawful transportation or storage of such controlled substances and paraphernalia, or to public officers or employees while engaged in the performance of their official duties, or to temporary incidental possession on the part of employees, agents or persons lawfully entitled to possession.
   (b)   The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a practitioner, as defined in Article 7 of the Michigan Public Health Code, being Act 368 of 1978, as amended, provided that such persons have complied with the applicable provisions of the United States Internal Revenue Code, as amended, and such other State or Federal statutes applicable to possession, sale, dispensing or prescribing controlled substances or paraphernalia. Further, no practitioner, as hereinbefore defined, shall prescribe such controlled substances or paraphernalia for his or her own use, nor shall any pharmacist honor any such prescription.
