The classified service ranks and maximum number of full-time police officers in each rank is established as follows: one (1) Chief of Police; one (1) captain; one (1) lieutenant; three (3) sergeants; and five (5) patrol officers. The number of personnel above are the maximum and not the minimum number required to be employed. If a person leaves the services of the Police Department or is promoted, a vacancy shall not exist in any rank, and no employee shall be hired or promoted until such time as the City Council authorizes the vacancy to be filled.
