5-5-5: EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
   A.   The following equipment is required on each snowmobile:
      1.   Mufflers: Mufflers which are properly attached and which reduce the noise of operation of the vehicle to the minimum noise necessary for operating the vehicle. No person shall use a muffler cutout, bypass or similar device on a snowmobile. (1999 Code § 17.06)
      2.   Brakes And Lights: Adequate brakes in good working condition and at least one headlight and one taillight in compliance with 625 Illinois Compiled Statutes 40/4-1. (1999 Code § 17.06; amd. 2005 Code)
      3.   Safety Throttle: A safety or so called "dead man" throttle in operating condition; a "safety" or "dead man" throttle is defined as a device which, when pressure is removed from the accelerator or throttle, causes the motor to be disengaged from the driving track. (1999 Code § 17.06)
      4.   Reflective Material: Reflective material of a minimum area of sixteen (16) square inches mounted on each side of the cowling. Identifying numbers may be included in computing the required sixteen (16) square inch area. (2005 Code)
   B.   No person shall operate a snowmobile that is not equipped as provided in subsection A of this section. (1999 Code § 17.06)
