§ 90.17 IMPOUNDMENT OF DOGS AT LARGE; NOTICE; REDEMPTION; DISPOSITION.
   (A)   It shall be the duty of every police officer to apprehend any dog found running at large contrary to the provisions of this subchapter and to impound such dog in a pound or other suitable place. The Town Marshal's Office upon receiving any dog shall make a complete registry, entering the breed, color and sex of such dog and whether licensed. If licensed, the name and address of the owner and the number of the license tag shall be registered.
   (B)   Notice of impoundment. Not later than three days after the impounding of any dog the owner shall be notified, or if the owner of the dog is unknown, written notice shall be posted for three days at three conspicuous places in the town describing the dog, the time and place of taking and the license number, if licensed.
   (C)   Redemption by owner; charges. The owner of any dog impounded may reclaim such dog upon the payment of a fine of $50 for the first violation; a fine of $75 for all subsequent violations in the same calendar year plus pound expenses charged by the pound or shelter where the dog is impounded.
   (D)   Disposition when unclaimed. It shall be the duty of the Town Marshal's Office to keep all dogs so impounded for a period of three days. If at the expiration of three days from the date of notice to the owner or the posting of notice such dog shall not have been redeemed, it may be disposed of. Any unlicensed dog required by law to be licensed, or any dog which appears to be suffering from rabies or affected with hydrophobia, mange or other infections or dangerous disease shall not be released but may be forthwith destroyed.
