(A) The Mayor shall appoint a Board of Examiners of Plumbers. The Board shall consist of the assistant plumbing inspector, one master plumber and one journeyman plumber who shall be actively engaged in the business of plumbing throughout their term of office. The members of the Board of Examiners of Plumbers shall serve without compensation and their terms of office shall be co-terminous with that of the Mayor unless removed by the Mayor for cause.

(B) The clerk of the Board of Public Works shall act as secretary. It shall be the duty of the secretary to preserve and keep all records, books and papers which are required by ordinance or by the Examining Board to be kept by or filed with the Board, and to do or perform such other work as may be required by the Board.

(C) The Board of Examiners shall, within 30 days after the appointment of members, meet and organize by the selection of a chairman, and they shall designate the time and place for the examination of all applicants for a license. The Board shall examine applicants as to their practical and theoretical knowledge of plumbing, house drainage and ventilation, and also as to their knowledge of the ordinances of the city regulating the work. The examination may be oral or written at the discretion of the Board. If satisfied of the competency of the applicant, the Board shall so certify to the Board of Public Works.
