The rate of participant contribution to be made by a firefighter or police participant to the retirement system shall be 9.5% of base pay plus holiday pay and regular firefighters’ drivers’ pay, if applicable. Participant contributions by police officers and firefighters to the retirement system are mandatory as a condition of participation and accrual of benefits under the retirement system. No participant contributions shall be required after a firefighter or police participant becomes entitled to the maximum pension benefit under the retirement system.
