6-3-1: DEFINITIONS:
BURIAL PLOT:
The location, by section and block, identified in a city cemetery for the future exercise of a burial right, or the memorial to a deceased person.
BURIAL RIGHT:
The limited right of a specific individual to be buried in a specific burial lot in any land designated by the city as a cemetery or a columbarium niche.
BURIAL VAULT:
A structure used to hold a casket or container of cremated remains.
CEMETERY OFFICIAL:
The Cemetery Sexton or other authorized City employee.
CERTIFICATE OF BURIAL RIGHT:
A document issued by the city identifying the individual who may be buried in a burial plot.
CREMATED REMAINS:
The remains of a deceased human that have been reduced to ashes.
DISINTERMENT:
The permanent removal of a casket or cremated remains from a burial plot.
EXHUMATION:
The temporary removal of human remains from a burial plot.
GRAVE:
A burial plot in which human remains, including cremated remains, have been buried or which has been excavated in anticipation of burial.
MARKER:
A memorial marker that is flat, flush to the natural grade of a grave identifying the person whose remains are buried in the grave.
MEMORIAL STONE:
A marker or monument stone used to identify the person interred in a burial plot.
MEMORIALS:
Items placed on a burial lot as a remembrance.
RESIDENCY:
Washington City residency shall be determined by proof shown, such as recorded property ownership, voting records, Washington City utility accounts, or other acceptable proof of residency. (Ord. 2022-53, 9-28-2022)
