§ 98.20 EXISTING STREETS.
Existing unnamed streets will be named by petition or assignment by the city.
   (A)   Petition. Residents along the concerned street way may request proposed street names on an existing unnamed street, listing in order the first, second, and third choices for a street name. A map or drawing showing the location of the street shall be submitted with the request. Any person submitting such a request shall be required to include with the request a petition signed by 75% of the residents fronting upon the street and joining in the request. Only one occupant per dwelling would count toward the majority.
   (B)   Assignment by the city. Authorizes the Police Chief of the city Police Department, Fire Chief of the City Fire Department and the Department head of the City Service Department, to be known as the Street Name and Address Committee, to name or rename an existing or newly established street in the incorporated sections of the city. All duplicate street names shall be changed. Public hearings will be held when deemed necessary to respond to the questions of an area. One public hearing, for each ward, will be held 15 days after streets have been named. Notice of the public hearings will be published in the Record Herald and broadcast over the WCHO and WVNU radio stations not less than 15 days prior to the hearing. Residents at this time may request another satisfactory name by a petition described above. If no response is received for a 15-day period, the street name becomes official and may not be changed.
