(A) Elective office shall become vacant on the happening of either of the following events before the expiration of the term of the person holding such office:
(1) The death of the incumbent;
(2) His or her resignation;
(3) His or her becoming insane;
(4) His or her ceasing to be an inhabitant of the village;
(5) His or her conviction of an felony or of any offense involving a violation of his or her official oath;
(6) His or her removal from office;
(7) His or her refusal or neglect to take his or her oath, or to deposit or file such oath or bond within the time prescribed by law; or
(8) The decision of a competent tribunal declaring his or her election void.
(B) Any officer or employee appointed under any of the provisions of this code may, by a majority vote of the Board of Trustees, be removed at any time for incompetency, neglect, or violation of duty.
(C) Every officer or employee of the village shall, upon his or her removal or expiration of his or her term of office, deliver to his or her successor, within five days after demand, all books, papers, documents, or other property belonging to the village pertaining to his or her office.
