§ 91.08  DESTRUCTION AND/OR DISPOSAL OF IMPOUNDED ANIMALS.
   (A)   When not redeemed by the owner, an animal which has been impounded for failure to be inoculated and registered, if applicable, in accordance with the provisions of this chapter shall be humanely dispatched, offered for adoption, or otherwise disposed of by the pound as a stray animal in accordance with the laws that exist or may hereafter exist.
   (B)   Any animal impounded under this chapter and not redeemed within seven days may be destroyed by the Animal Welfare Officer in any humane manner as provided in the statutes of the state.
   (C)   Any animal suspected to be afflicted with rabies running at large within the village may be slain by the Animal Welfare Officer, or any other law enforcement officer, if such officer deems it essential to the safety of any person within the village.
   (D)   Any animal impounded and not wearing the tag issued under the Animal Control Act, 510 ILCS 5/1 et seq., whose owner or keeper is unknown, shall be destroyed or may be redeemed by any person upon the payment of costs of impounding, on or after 21 days from the date said animal is impounded.
