§ 70.17  PERMITS FOR EXCESSIVE WEIGHTS.
   (A)   Whenever it shall be necessary to transport a vehicle weighing in excess of 20,000 pounds upon the village streets, the same shall be done only after the issuance of a special permit for a single trip with the load so to be transported. Any member of the Village Board or the Chief of Police is hereby authorized, upon proper application in writing, to grant such special permit for the moving of such excessive load; provided, that the person making such application shall furnish a bond in the sum of $5,000 to the village, conditioned so as to save the village harmless from any claim, loss, or damage that may result from the granting of such permit, or that may arise from or on account of any work done thereunder; and further, condition that the person making such application shall restore at his or her own cost, to a condition satisfactory to the Chairperson of the Street Department, any pavement, sewer, pipe conduit, or other portion of the roadway that may be injured by reason of the transportation of such heavy vehicle under such permit.
   (B)   The Village Board or Chairperson of the Street Department, in granting such permit, shall whenever it may appear to him or her necessary to do so in order to protect the pavements of the village or to prevent obstruction to traffic, limit such permit as to time and particular street or streets to be used, and impose such other special conditions as may, in his or her opinion, tend to prevent injury or damage to the village or its property. The fee for such permit shall be $10 to be paid to the Village Clerk before the same is issued.
