2-11-5: ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The commission shall have the following roles and responsibilities:
   A.   Plan for bicyclists and pedestrians as part of a citywide and regional multiuse transportation system.
   B.   Evaluate and prioritize ways to improve the level of bicycle and pedestrian services, trails, paths, on street bikeways and other economically feasible projects.
   C.   Identify high priority projects that improve safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians, reducing car and bike/pedestrian conflicts.
   D.   Encourage bicycle commuting and walking in lieu of motorized transportation and recreation.
   E.   Initiate bicycle and pedestrian safety programs and related events.
   F.   Host public meetings to create safe routes to schools and parks.
   G.   Provide resources and educational materials on cycling and walking.
   H.   Attain the designation of "bicycle friendly community" for the city of Warrenville.
   I.   Establish communication with the League of Illinois Bicyclists, Chicagoland Bicycling Federation, Illinois Prairie Path Association, coordinator of the DuPage County trails system, and other related community groups.
   J.   Make recommendations to the city council for the planning of bikeway and pedestrian routes, including:
      1.   Providing a comprehensive bicycle and pedestrian routing plan that serves a variety of user types, ages and abilities.
      2.   Building public consensus for bicyclist and pedestrian planning and facility improvements by encouraging public participation in the planning process and plan implementation.
      3.   Identifying strategies and economic feasibility for the design and construction of recommended bike and pedestrian route improvements.
      4.   Utilizing the city of Warrenville 1999 sidewalk priority plan and any other related plans, that establish policy for adding sidewalks and mapped sidewalk priorities throughout the city.
   K.   Perform such other duties and functions as may be requested of it by the mayor and city council. (Ord. 2344, 10-2-2006)
