7-2-3-17: SURFACING REQUIREMENTS IN PUBLIC RIGHTS-OF-WAY:
Unless otherwise approved by the Public Works Director or his designee, with specific justification for such approval documented in writing, the following specifications are required:
   A.   Where a public sidewalk passes through a driveway, a minimum of seven inches (7") of fiberized concrete must be provided over two inches (2") of CA-6 aggregate. Expansion joints on both sides of the sidewalk through the driveway must be provided for total thickness of the concrete.
   B.   For public sidewalks located outside of driveways, a minimum five inches (5") of fiberized concrete must be provided over two inches (2") of CA-6 aggregate.
   C.   All new or replacement private single family residential driveway aprons and approaches constructed in the public right-of-way shall be constructed so that the lesser of: 1) the first fifteen feet (15') of driveway measured from the edge of the road, or 2) the driveway section located between the edge of the road and a parallel public sidewalk shall provide seven inches (7") of fiberized concrete over two inches (2") of CA-6 aggregate or eight inches (8") of CA-6 aggregate with three inches (3") of compacted hot-mix asphalt surface course.
   D.   All new or replacement private driveway aprons and approaches constructed in the public right-of-way that are not for single family residential homes, shall be constructed so that the lesser of: 1) the first fifteen feet (15') of driveway measured from the edge of the road, or 2) the driveway section located between the edge of the road and a parallel public sidewalk shall provide seven inches (7") of fiberized concrete over two inches (2") of CA-6 aggregate or a full-depth asphalt cross-section matching section 7-2-3-4 of this chapter.
Fiberized concrete shall be Class SI with a minimum 6.1 bag mix, in accordance with section 1020 of the "Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction", latest edition, published by the Illinois Department of Transportation, and ASTM C-1116, and shall include fibrous reinforcement. Fibrous reinforcement is one-half inch (1/2") length synthetic fiber, added at a rate of 1.5 pounds per cubic yard of concrete. (Ord. O2018-26, 6-18-2018)
