4-4-9: IMPOUNDING; ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER:
   A.   City Pound: It shall be the duty of the city to provide a pound where shall be impounded all animals that are captured pursuant to the provisions of this chapter.
   B.   Dangerous Animals: If any dangerous, fierce or vicious animal cannot be safely taken up and impounded, such animal may be destroyed only by a police officer.
   C.   Animal Control Officer:
      1.   The city shall designate an animal control officer who shall thereupon be that city employee charged with the duty of enforcing this chapter and maintaining and operating the city pound. (Ord. 631, 8-2-1982)
      2.   When a city vehicle is not provided, the animal control officer shall be reimbursed for vehicular costs at the rate officially recognized by the city. Purchase of a vehicle suitable for duties required hereunder, maintenance thereof and purchase of insurance in amount, type and companies acceptable to the corporate authorities shall be the officer's responsibility.       3.   The animal control officer shall keep an accurate account of animals impounded, released and/or destroyed. Incident reports are to be written for cases requiring same, and an annual report for license renewal to department of agriculture and department of natural resources shall be completed.
