The driver of an authorized emergency vehicle, when responding to an emergency call (but not upon returning from a fire alarm), or when in the pursuit of a suspected law breaker may drive, park or stand without regard to the provisions of this traffic code, but nothing herein shall relieve the driver from a duty to act with due regard for the safety of all persons and property.
