(A)
The purpose of this chapter, pursuant to G.S. § 160D-940, is to establish a Warren County Historic Preservation Commission, pursuant to G.S. §§ 160D-303 and 160D-941 in support and furtherance of its findings and determination of the county that the historical, cultural and aesthetic heritage of the county is among its most valued and important assets and that the preservation of this heritage is essential to the promotion of the health, prosperity and general welfare of the people.
(B) The Board of Commissioners hereby declares it to be the purpose and intent of this chapter to establish a Historic Preservation Commission to establish a uniform procedure for use in providing for the protection, enhancement, perpetuation and use of places, districts, sites, buildings, structures, objects, and landscape features having a special historical, cultural or aesthetic interest or value, in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.
(C) It is further the purpose of this chapter that the Historic Preservation Commission's jurisdiction for its activities shall coincide with the county’s zoning boundaries as delineated and shown on the official zoning map for Warren County, pursuant to G.S. § 160D-944, and to the un-zoned areas of Warren County for historic landmarks and properties (not inclusive of the Towns of Norlina, Warrenton and their respective extraterritorial jurisdictions).
