A building permit shall become invalid if the work authorized by it is not commenced within six months of its issuance, or if the work is suspended or abandoned for a period of one year from the date of such issuance, or if the work is not completed in a period of one year after the date of such issuance. If the work is not completed within one year the applicant must resubmit the required information with all applicable fees to apply. However, for cause, one or more extensions of time, for periods not exceeding ninety days each, may be allowed by written permission of the Director of Public Service and Safety or his or her designee.
