1440.02 EMPLOYMENT OF INSPECTORS; LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES.
   (a)   The Director of Public Service and Safety, under the provisions of this chapter, is responsible for the administration and enforcement of this Building Code. He or she may employ such inspectors as are necessary to ensure proper supervision of the buildings. Building inspectors shall be employed in the City Engineering, Zoning and Inspection Department and shall perform such duties as are imposed by this Building Code and by other ordinances.
   (b)   To be eligible for employment, a building inspector shall be generally informed on the quality and strength of building materials, on prevailing methods of building construction, on good practice, on fire prevention, on the accepted requirements for safe exit facilities and on the proper installation of plumbing, electrical wiring and other installations for the safety, comfort and convenience of occupants. He or she shall have a minimum of one year of experience with construction inspection and shall pass an inspection test as promulgated by the City. He or she shall have no interest, directly or indirectly, in any building business, or enter into any contract for building for others or for furnishing materials, plans or specifications for building construction as it pertains to this Building Code.
   (c)   The Director of Public Service and Safety, or a building inspector, or any official, officer or employee charged with the enforcement of any of the provisions of this Building Code, when acting in good faith and without malice, shall not be personally liable for damages by reason of anything done under the provisions of this Building Code.
