(a) The part-time position of Magistrate for the Mayor's Court is hereby established.
(b) Any Magistrate to be appointed by Council must be licensed as an attorney and practicing law in the State for a period of at least six years and for at least five years in the practice of criminal law. Furthermore, any Magistrate to be appointed must have completed all training courses required by the Ohio Supreme Court for Magistrates and be in good standing as a Magistrate.
(c) The compensation for the position of the Magistrate for the Mayor's Court is hereby set at three hundred twenty five dollars ($325.00) for each regular session of Mayor's Court unless the Mayor acts in that capacity. The maximum number of regular sessions of the Mayor's Court shall be 48 per year. In addition thereto, the magistrate shall be compensated at the rate of one hundred dollars ($100.00) per hour billable in one-half hour increments for all five-day hearings. Five-day hearings shall be scheduled as needed. All compensation shall be covered by O.P.E.R.S.
(d) Notwithstanding the foregoing, the Mayor can officiate over Mayor's Court proceedings so long as they have completed all training courses required by the Ohio Supreme Court for Mayors/Magistrates and is in good standing as the same. The compensation of the Mayor who oversees Mayor's Court proceedings shall be in accordance with Chapter 230 of the Codified Ordinances of the Village of Walton Hills.
